You can waive a player at any time during the year.
There is no limit on how many players you can waive, but you must always maintain at least 18 active roster players.
How to Place Player on Waivers
On the waivers board, start a new thread.
Subject of post should be the player’s name.
Copy the players information from your roster page.
Once you waive a player, he no longer counts towards your active player count.
Claimed players
If a player is waived, there is a 24 period in which other teams can bid to claim the player. The initial claim bid must be equal to or greater than the players current contract (salary $ amount x salary years = contract value).
Once a claim bid has been submitted, the player will be moved to the UFA board and bids will be open to all teams for 48 hours from the time of the claim bid.
If a player is claimed within the 24 hour period, the owner waiving the player is not assessed a penalty.
Clearing waivers
Any player who does NOT have a claim bid submitted during the 24 hour period clears waivers, has their salary reset, and is eligible to be posted as an unrestricted free agent.
Cap penalty
Teams will be assessed a penalty for any player they waive who clears waivers.
The penalty will be 1/2 the player's salary amount applied against the appropriate year's cap, the minimum penalty will be $1, except for the players final contract year. The penalty for the final year will be $1 against the appropriate years current salary cap.
For example, if Barry Sanders has a $7/3 contract and is waived in 2009, you will be assessed a $3.5 penalty in 2009, a $3.5 penalty in 2010, and a $1 penalty in 2011.
For a player with only 1 year remaining, i.e. Barry Sanders $17/1, the penalty will only be $1 under the final year exception.
Reclaim waived players
You can reclaim a player on waivers within 24 hours of posting a thread, as long as there are no active bids on him.
